Russian Dolls: Marina Eats Again!

Marina Gulping down a bowl of salad?  Sveta looks shocked!

I was reading throught the blog comments this morning and fans of the blog have made a special request.  They wanted me to capture Marina eating at Renata's after show party.  As you call, in episode 11 Perestroika, Marina does not attend Renata's play "Demon," but shows up to "pig out" on the food at the party.  While I was busy taking notes, so I could do a recap of the episode, I entirely missed the "gluttonous" segment, where Marina wolfs down a bowl of "salad."  Some kindly readers pointed it out to me and I went back to watch today.  I know you are dying for a close-up so here it is, but brace yourself:

This is actually the second on camera "mouthFULL" she takes

I took the opportunity to also watch the argument that ensued after the "eating," where Marina launches a full scale, no holds barred, attack, on Sveta and ruins Renata's party by once again having no self control.  Marina thinks everything is about her and does not know how to behave in public.  Quite unbecoming of a "socialite" whouldn't you say?   Please take NOTE of the man right next to Marina in the picture!

He sure for an "earFULL!"  He looks in pain!

Now you tell me, who in their right mind would do a talk show around that voice?  The mere idea of it is preposterous!  I wonder if the writers and producers, having 20/20 hindsight, want to kick themselves for selecting her out of hundreds of applicants?  Was having Rasputin as a backdrop really worth it?  In my opinion, no, but what do I know?  As for Marina?  Let her do what she does best...eat cake!

PS Marina, please listen to the Countess Luann's song "Money Can't Buy You Class" over and over until it sinks in.  Even the song helps even one person, it will be worth it.  Here is the link, you can listen between bites of cake:  Money CAN'T Buy You Class  Have a good listen!

  2. The high pitched voice in itself can be used in some limited circumstances, such as comedies. For instance, actress Jean Stapleton successfully used this voice to play Edith Bunker in All in the Family (Edith's voice is not Jean's real voice). But while the voice could be of some use, Marina's personality is useless. Sveta said in that episode: "you should be selling fish in the market!" This was a reference to the fact that in the old country, obnoxious, fat, uneducated loud women who sell stuff at outdoor markets look, act, and talk like Marina:-)

  3. Thank you glad you enjoyed it LOL! Edith was a lovable character and the high pitch came mainly when she was calling people. I cannot ever see Marina portraying a lovable character and her voice is high pitched all the time. Look at the poor guy in the picture, I hope his hearing survived.

  4. The guy in the picture - his name is Andrey, he is a composer. He created music for the Demon, among other things. Really nice soft spoken guy. It is just sad that he got stuck next to
    Marina:-(

  5. Nina, this was one of your best writing ever !

Keep up the great work. Love the picture with the guy putting his hands on his ears, that's how the 100 viewers felt every time she was on TV.

Marina please go away..no one and I do mean NO ONE likes YOU or your pathetic Rusptun restaurant.. and for the record YOU ARE THE UGLY FAT 34 YEAR OLD PIG !!

  6. How could Renata ever think that Marina is an adequate person and even consider her as her friend! Jesus! Renata, you are too nice, hopefully now you see the true colors and never speak with that PIG again.

  7. Renata and Marina have never been friends. Ever. This was all staged for the show. I guess they were picked for it and played along. The scene which is particularly amusing is a short clip on Lifetime website, with Renata, Marina, Sveta and their husbands having dinner at Michael's and Marina's house. Would have never happened in real life. There is nothing in common between Renata/Sveta and Marina.

  8. That is interesing Anonymous. I guess the only real things about the show are their names. Everything else seems to be a scripted setup to create drama or as a way of talking about Russian culture. I wonder how the show is doing on the sister station Lifetime for Real Women, esp with Eddie and Albert insulting women every chance they get.

  9. Michael posted a funny comment on facebook a few days ago asking if anybody knows how to get a russian cook book published (headed by marina of course...). love how with their supposed "connections" in the entertainment industry he is posting the question on facebook! and one of the responses was hilarious basically asking Michael if perhaps Marina is simply not marketable... of course, Michael can't imagine such a thing. hilarity ensured.

  10. Anonymous, I will look for that comment by Michael. They will rip off the recipes from the restaurant, they won't be Marina's. I have to check this out, thanks.
