Russian Dolls: Saving Russian Dolls?

Brandon Boyd has recently started a facebook page to save Russian Dolls on Lifetime.  Either he is an overzealous fan or has some connection to the show, I don't know which one, but I found it interesting that he is trying to get support for the show this late in the game.  I was going to post a reminder about the marathon tomorrow morning for the last episodes for those of you who want to see it to the end.  I decided to combine both topics into one blog.

Apparently Russian Dolls does have its fans, albeit not enough for Lifetime to consider a season two.  The show probably cost them money, I doubt they made any profits.  No harm done, they can deduct the loss as a business expense.  But I do feel bad for people like Brandon, who got invested in the show only to have it come to a swift end.  I even feel sorry for me, for starting this blog when I believed the media hype that this would be the next Jersey Shore.  I thought it was going to be a successful show and make all the work worthwhile.  Instead, with the demise of the show, I am left with a virtually worthless blog.  Once the final shows air, there will be nothing to write about.  I will have to move on and so will Brandon.

But, if there are some fans out there who want the chance to show their support, please go to Brandon's page and "like" it.  They say numbers talk.  If he gets enough fans over to his page maybe it will give Lifetime something to talk about?   But you better hurry because tomorrow the final shows will air and I think Lifetime is washing it's hand of the show and the cast members.

Russian Dolls: Eddie's Pet Peeves

What is the latest on Eddie?  Does anyone care?  Well if you do, apparently he has applied for a role on Real World.  Real World is casting, so he says, and they are better than Lifetime.  However there appears to be a slight problem.  According to his contract with Lifetime, he cannot be cast on any other reality show for six months.  I don't think Real World will want to wait six months for Eddie.

Eddie wants to remain in the entertainment industry, and seems determined.  But, maybe he has had his chance and this is the end of the line for him?  He always has his poetry, but if I were him I would not pin my hopes on poetry or television.  Maybe he should go back to school or find a real job.

Good Luck Eddie!

Russian Dolls: Marina Issues Press Release

Marina plans a spin off show and cookbook, so she says, in a press release SHE issued. Well she better find herself a production company and publisher and finance it herself. No one in their right mind is going to invest money in her with that abrasive personality and high pitched voice, when there are so many other talented and personable people available for work. The offers are not pouring in as Michael and Marina would like us to believe or there would be no need for a press release, she would be in negotiations.

The only reason Marina appeared in so many newspapers is because of the controversy the show stirred up in the Russian community of Brighton Beach. That is the real reason the show made the news. The very people who were offended by the show brought much attention to it. However, it did not take many episodes to figure out the show was not going to last very long. The cast members and storylines were uninteresting to boring and there was too much not real about a show that is supposed to be a reality show.

In her press release, Marina makes sure to do plenty of name dropping as though it is going to impress us that she has a Hermes bag or a be diamonded watch. Who cares? Her full bodied figure is far from flattering when she insists on wearing tight fitting clothing. Even the greatest designer in the world cannot make her look stunningly beautiful, as she appears in her own mind’s eye.

Eva’s audition did not make it to air on the show X Factor, but Marina claims Simon Cowell promised to eat at Rasputin! If he did in fact say that, he was being polite at best. Why would he eat there when NYC is home to a couple of Gordon Ramsey restaurants, where the food is bound to be delicious and impeccably made from the finest ingredients. As you recall, on the show, they served pigs in a blanket at Sveta’s jewelry show. That is food for peasants not socialites.

This whole press release is the biggest joke of all that has come out of Russian Dolls. Read it if you can and please share your opinion.

Russian Dolls: Recap of Episode 8 "It Take DVA To Tango"

If you haven’t already seen it, episode 8 is on you tube.com of all places. I placed the video here for those of you who miss the show and want to see 8 before the marathon on October 7th at 8AM ET.

The young Russians are all out at a restaurant playing with a Buddha figurine when Anna asks, “How is everyone’s love life?” Anastasia is very happy with Vlad. Anna announces she has found somebody for herself, he is funny, smart, has a great job, great body, he’s every girl’s dream. He is even learning Russian for her! They have been dating two months. This sounds very promising, except in the earlier episodes Anna confessed that she has cheated on every boyfriend she has had. Anna has trust issues and this guy is moving too fast for her taste.

Renata and Boris go out to eat, a date night. They are both believers in keeping their marriage fresh and Boris thinks this can come in the form of a rose or a trip or anything and he hands Renata an envelope. In the envelope is a present…dance lessons, something they can do together. Renata is thrilled and the best part is she can schedule it whenever she wants, so Boris says.

Anthony, Anna’s boyfriend, wants to get a tattoo, the words “I won’t kill you, but I’ll watch you die.” Then Anthony mentions he has to go out of town on business and Anna says good she will go out herself. Anthony starts asking her where she is going. Anna admits she hasn’t been out alone in two months, and she wants to keep her independence.

Renata calls for Tango lessons and the class for the beginners is only given on Tuesdays. Tuesday is the night Boris plays poker for many years. Problem for Renata. Boris comes home and what are the first words out of his mouth? “I can’t wait for Tuesday to go out with the boys.” Now come on, that was so scripted! Renata tells him she has a problem and he can’t say no, she scheduled the dancing class for Tuesday. Boris is not happy and he is even more upset when she says it’s every Tuesday. Boris is flexible, but he does not go dancing on Tuesdays.

Anthony gets his tattoo and takes off on his business trip and Anna is left on her own to go out. She meets the girls at a club. Suddenly they are all friends again. Remember their issues on Russian New Year? Well, they are all cleared up for this episode. She confides in the girls that her boyfriend is planning their future and she is just living in the moment. Anna says she needs space. And then she adds Tommy, a guy she used to date, has been texting her at least once a day. She is thinking of hanging out with him and wants their opinion. Diana is all for it. Diana thinks she has commitment issues because she wants to see Tommy and is afraid of getting serious with Anthony.

I guess Boris changed his mind because Renata and Boris are at the dance school for their first lesson. The first thing Boris says is that he doesn’t like the Tango, it’s boring.  He would rather play cards with the boys, but he wants to make Renata happy. Boris actually enjoyed the lesson.

Anna meets Tommy at the pool hall. She doesn’t think of it as cheating, she calls it harmless hanging out, not a date. It’s one game of pool. No big deal. Then Tommy says if he wins she should give him a kiss and she agrees to the bet…SCRIPTED! All of a sudden Tommy’s balls are all going into the pockets. They kiss. She said it felt completely wrong.

Diana can’t wait to find out what happened with Anna and Tommy and she tells her they hung out and kissed. Anna says she didn’t feel anything for him. She regretted going. She doesn’t know if she should tell Anthony about it. It was a mistake and she has to tell Anthony so she doesn’t have a lie between them. She cares for Anthony.

Anthony and Anna meet at 1001 Nights restaurant. She is going to come clean about Tommy. Anthony confesses to Anna that he is falling for her. He never felt this way before. Anna is pretty serious and tells him she has to tell him something. She went to play pool with another guy. He asks what else happened. She says she kissed him. He asks her to repeat it. She says they kissed. Anthony seems visibly upset and gets up. He takes his jacket and leaves. Anna starts crying. She walks out. Anthony is getting in his car. He speeds off and she is on the floor crying. She just lost an amazing guy. She ends up at Diana’s and Anastasia and Eddie are there. She was upset and needed her “friends.” She tells them she is upset about her breakup. She was hoping he would forgive her but he just walked out.

My two cents: This episode is about two of my favorite cast members, Renata and Anna. Let’s take Renata first. I get the impression that Boris and Renata never fight, so this little tiff about the dance lessons almost makes no sense. Knowing Renata, from watching earlier episodes, it would have made more sense if she had chosen a different ballroom dance offered on another night that would not have conflicted with Boris’ poker game. Renata is a peacemaker and loves Boris. However, if she had done that there would have been no drama, therefore the dance she wants to learn must be on Tuesdays so Boris can raise his voice and then give in. Love Renata and Boris, great couple.

Now too many things were wrong with the Anna script. First of all, all the girls are very chummy after the big fight and words that were exchanged on Russian New Years. You would think they would still be angry if it had been a real fight. Second of all Anna says she has been dating Anthony for two months and yet he was NOT at the Russian New Year’s party. The New Year’s episode (6) aired September 15th and I am sure this episode was not filmed two or more months later, giving Anna time to date Anthony. Their timeline is a mess. It makes everything they say and do unbelievable. Third, Anna tells Anthony about her date with Tommy. There is no discussion at all, Anthony gets up and leaves. Anna doesn’t say wait, let me explain, or even go after him and make any attempt to let him know that the kiss made her realize how much she cares for Anthony. Even when she went to see her “friends” her emotions were subdued, not like someone who just broke up with the love of her life. I don’t get it. It makes me think these two guys were just brought in to create a storyline and nothing is real. By the way, they could have eliminated all those meaningless confessionals with Diana, Anastasia and especially the ones with Eddie and Albert, who only insult women, and spend more time on the storyline of the breakup. There is only twenty minutes to work with and they should make the most of it, but they don’t. But, who am I? I am not a writer or producer so what do I know? I know a bad show when I see one.

If you don’t want to wait until October 7th the video is below. Now when have you ever heard of a show airing a new episode on you tube?

Russian Dolls: Just When You Think You Heard Everything!

Just when you think you have heard everything in the realm of the absurd, something else comes along.  Today it's the news tweeted by Michael Levitis that Marina and Eva are in negotiations over a Russian talk show!  Yes you heard me right and he is asking for opinions, but I do hesitate to tweet him mine.  However, I will gladly pour my heart out here on the blog.

First of all it should be in Russian for a Russian audience.  Eva's accent is a little too thick for the average American listener to understand everything she says.  Marina's voice is too shrilly and high pitched in any language not to drive people away.  I have to wonder whose bright idea this is, if in fact it's true.  Some times i think these cast members throw stuff out there on the internet to see if it will "stick."  Like Eddie did a couple of days ago when he said another network had picked up the show for a second season.  I really have trouble believing Eva and Marina were made any kind of offer for a talk show.  I think they are just saying that so maybe some producer will think it's a good idea.  It's not.

Russian Dolls: Eddie vs Anastasia

The future of Russian Dolls seems to vary depending who you chose to listen to.  Yesterday my daughter informs me that Eddie Zee says another network is picking up the series.  My immeidate reaction was, "Are you going to believe what Eddie Z says?'  I guess she thought he wouldn't tweet something like that if it wasn't true.  Well, she was wrong.

Today she tells me Anastasia tweets that we should all sign a petition to save Russian Dolls and keep it on the air.  In fact there really is such a petition and I will post the link below for fans.

So which is it Eddie?  Did a new network (I can't even imagine which one) really pick up Russian Dolls, or was that some wishful thinking on your part?  Do you have a Fairy Godmother who can wave her wand and make all other networks forgot the poor ratings the show got?  Good Luck to you.

Anyway, for all you fans who would like to see more of Russian Dolls you can join the 25 who have already signed the petition @ Keep Russian Dolls On The Air   They only want 1,000 signatures.  How hard can that be?  Over one thousand people came to the blog looking for a reason why the show was not on last Thursday, maybe they will sign up?

Russian Dolls: Lifetime Silent On Series Future

We haven’t heard from Lifetime that the series is being cancelled and yet they are showing all the signs of doing away with the show. They are airing a marathon of the first shows on October 4th and then the last five episodes are airing at 8AM on October 7th (next Friday). I hope they give their fans enough notice to set their VCRs or DVRs. I think they also owe viewers an announcement of its cancellation. Last night people expected to tune in and watch episode 8, instead they learned it wasn’t on. I suspect that accounts for all the hits our blog got last night, probably people looking for an explanation. Marina cleverly tweeted that this was due to the Jewish New Year, however I think that was just a ploy to cover up the fact that Lifetime is done with the series. In any case, I found some clues as to what is going to be shown in the next couple of episodes and wanted to share them with you:

Episode 8: Anna cheats on her new boyfriend; Renata begs Boris to take Tango lessons with her

Episode 9: (Marina tweets) Eva dates a much younger man against Mrina’s better judgment.

Episode 10: (Marina Tweets) Michael (her husband) wants another baby! LOL

So there is just a sneak peek at what you can expect if you tune in to next Friday’s marathon. I am not sure if I will watch. It’s one thing to watch 30 minutes and a completely different thing to sit there for two and a half hours. If I do watch I will not be writing detailed recaps for all the shows, maybe just the things I can poke fun at or enjoy.

Will you watch the remaining 5 episodes? I’d like to know. For anyone who enjoys this blog, it will probably come to an end at some point. However I do write another blog, called Pet Peeves, which is about everything and anything under the sun. If you are interested in giving it a try, I welcome you. Here is the link: http://ninaspetpeeves.blogspot.com/
